Why Navigation 101?
Not only does Navigation 101 add to a college & career readiness culture at Goldendale High School, but it also can be connected to other positive improvements.
Student Led Conferences: Implemented in the 2009-10 school year.
Graduation Rates:
Student Led Conferences: Implemented in the 2009-10 school year.
- Conference attendance went from 65% attendance in the 2008-2009 school year to 90% attendance of a student with at least one parent in 2012-13.
- Survey results show that 82.5% of the students felt the student led conferences were worthwhile and 95% of parents felt the student led conferences were worthwhile in 2013.
- All (100%) of the advisors felt the student led conferences were worthwhile in 2013.
Graduation Rates:
- A steady increase in graduation rates have been seen with the full implementation of the Navigation 101 program during the 2011-12 school year.
- Graduation rates: 2009-10: 72.9%, 2010-11: 79.4%, 2011-12: 80.3% (an increase of 7.4% over 3 years.)
- The percent of graduates meeting high school course requirements for admission to a Washington 4-year college jumped from 8.5% in 2011 to 25.5% in 2012.
- In 2012, GHS was recognized as a Reward School because we met AYP in reading and math 2 years in a row, 54% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch, over 50% of students met reading and math scores over 3 years, and we had no negative test trend.
- 46% of students feel that they are more likely to graduate, and to do so on time, as a result of the Navigation 101 program.
- 45% of students agree that their involvement in the Navigation 101 program has inspired them to set and achieve their future goals.
- 88% of students felt that 1 or more adults in our school have helped them think about what they need to prepare for a college or career.
- 62% of staff agree that Navigation 101 helps students become more engaged in their learning.
- 86% of staff agree that the Navigation 101 program helps students see a connection between their future goals and what they are doing in school today.
- 69% of staff agree that the Navigation 101 program has helped inspire students to set and achieve future goals.
